An unknown app Houseparty which was released in Feb 2016 is suddenly in limelight during the coronavirus pandemic. This app allows you to do chit chat while you can also play online fun games with people you’re speaking with.

With half of a world under lockdown, people were finding ways for virtually catching up with their friends resulting in two million downloads last week alone. Houseparty app is like any other video collaboration app it allows you to host a virtual party at your house which sends an invitation to your friends to join the room but the app doesn’t limit to this, the app lets you play many games together while you are talking and chatting, games such as heads up, trivia, chips, and quick draw. The best part is that you don’t have to download these games separately. Houseparty has these games in-built.

As the app was experiencing popularity, concerns like safety also have been raised. Recently, many users reported that their accounts were hacked instigating a response from the company:

With this one more tweet from house party was on the float “All Houseparty app accounts are safe – the service is secure, has never been compromised, and doesn’t collect passwords for other sites”

Is the Houseparty app safe?

Numerous posts have appeared on social networks which simply can’t be ignored as users say that the app has resulted in their other online accounts – including Netflix, eBay, Instagram and Spotify – being hacked.

Though the Housparty tweet claimed it’s all safe, users are still deleting the app – meanwhile a legal scholar took a look at their privacy policy and her finding was too cryptic. According to her finding – Houseparty app privacy policy is claiming ownership of anything and everything user do on their platform and this permission is granted by the user only, which is a serious thing to look into.

How you can delete your Houseparty account?

The process is quite simple on iPhone. To delete your account, click on the user icon in the top left corner of the screen and tap the Settings button.

Click through to privacy and tap “delete account”. You will then be asked if you are certain you want to delete your account. Click yes and enter your password, then tap delete.

A lot of android users are finding it difficult to delete the app so for deleting the Houseparty app you can head over to the Settings > click on Privacy > and then on Delete account. The app will prompt you to enter your account password and re-confirm whether you wish to delete it or not. Just click on Ok.

With all the news happening around it, people are still not sure whether to use the app or not, which might affect the image and popularity of Houseparty. Be sure to not fall into online traps during the lockdown period and utilize video chat apps with your friends.
